Final Age Category Formats 2001


FINAL AGE CATEGORY FORMATS: (22nd March, 2001)
To accommodate all the teams who wished to enter the event the formats of each age group differes, so that we can provide the most interesting competition possible, with every team playing a minimum of 4 meaningful games. The lengths of matches remain as published and so the boys will have more than enough football over the weekend.
All age categories are 11-a-side except category E, which is 7-a-side.

Under-18
Under 18 (category A): For players born on or after 01/01/82.
8 teams will compete in two sections of 4 teams. The top two teams in the section will play in the semi-finals to decide the two teams who go forward to Monday's Blackpool Cup final. The bottom two teams in each section will go forward to the Challenge Cup semi-finals. The Challenge cup will be played to a finish on Sunday.If any semi-final and/or final is drawn then penalties will decide the result. Extra time will not be played. All games will be 20 minutes each way.

Under-16
Under 16 (category B1): For players born on or after 01/01/84.
15 teams will compete in three sections of 5 teams The top team in each section plus the best placed 2nd team in the 5 team sections will play semi-finals to decide which teams go forward to Monday's Blackpool Cup final. If any semi-final and/or the final is drawn then penalties will decide the result. Extra time will not be played.
All games will be 20 minutes each way.

Under-15
Under 15 (category B2): For players born on or after 01/01/85.
18 teams will compete in four sections, two of 5 teams and two of four teams. The top team in each section will go forward to the Blackpool Cup Semi-finals on Sunday, to decide the two teams who will go forward to Monday's final. The other 3 teams from each four team section plus 2nd placed teams in the five team sections will go forward to the Challenge Cup, a knock out competition starting with quarter finals. The 3rd, 4th and 5th placed teams in the five team section will take no further part in the tournament. If any quarter final, semi-final tie and/or the finals are drawn then penalties will decide the result. Extra time will not be played.
All games will be 20 minutes each way.

Under-14
Under 14 (category C1): For players born on or after 01/01/86.
15 teams will compete in three sections of 5 teams . The top team from each section plus the best placed 2nd team from the six team sections will play in the semi-finals to decide the two teams which will go forward to Monday's final. If semi-final ties or the final is drawn then penalties will decide the result. Extra time will not be played. All games will be 20 minutes each way.

Under-13
Under 13 (category C2): For players born on or after 01/01/87.
12 teams will compete in two sections of 6 teams. The top two team in each section will play in the semi-finals to decide the two teams which will go forward to Monday's Blackpool Cup Final. If Semii-final ties or the final is drawn then penalties will decide the result. Extra time will not be played.
All games will be 15 minutes each way.

Under-12
Under 12 (category D1): For players born on or after 01/01/88.
16 teams will compete in four sections of 4 teams. The top two teams in the section will play in the quarter-finals and these winners will play in the semii-finals to decide the two teams who go forward to Monday's Blackpool Cup final. The bottom two teams in each section will go forward to the Challenge Cup quarter-finals and these winners will play in the semii-finals to decide the two teams who go forward to Monday's Challenge Cup final.. If any quarter final. semi-final and/or final is drawn then penalties will decide the result. Extra time will not be played.
All games will be 15 minutes each way.

Under-11
Under 11 (category D2): For players born on or after 01/01/89.
13 teams will compete in two sections of 4 teams and one section of 5 teams. The top teams in each section plus the second team in the 5 team section will play in the semi-finals to decide the two teams who go forward to Monday's Blackpool Cup final. The bottom three teams in the four team section plus the 3rd and 4th placed team in the five team section will play in the Challenge Cup, a knock out competition starting with quarter-finals. The 5th team in the five team section will take no further part in the tournament. If any quarter final. semi-final and/or final is drawn then penalties will decide the result. Extra time will not be played.
All games will be 15 minutes each way.
Note: A smaller pitch with slightly lower cross bar is used for most of the under-11 games but not all, 3 games being played on a bigger pitch with full height goals..

Under-10
Under 10 (category E): For players born on or after 01/01/90.
18 teams will compete in three sections of 6 teams. The top team in each section plus the best 2nd placed team play in the semi-finals to decide the two teams which will go forward to the final. If semi-final ties or the final is drawn then penalties will decide the result. Extra time will not be played.
All games and semi-finals will be 15 minutes each way.
The final will be played on Sunday on the stadium pitch.
